Maintaining one's balance

Some thoughts to either keep me aiming higher, in terms of personal growth...

We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken away from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms -- to choose one's attitude in any given circumstances, to choose one's own way. Or keep me from overreaching and trying to change what cannot be changed...

'This world is nothing but a dance of shadows; a line drawn between darkness and light, joy and oppression, time and eternity. Learn to read this subtle line for it tells all the secrets of creation.' -- Fakhruddin Araqi, Sufi mystic (1213-1289 A.D.)

[Came across this in a book, but here's an online source.]
